An autumn-ready villa, even when you are away

Between stays, clear arrangements make property oversight easier: maintenance, access, reporting and coordination of any work.

A property also needs to be ready for the weeks when it is unoccupied. As winter approaches, the aim is to return to a welcoming home and understand how it is being looked after while you are away. That begins with straightforward arrangements shared by the owner and everyone involved.

Use autumn to review the property

In its reminder published on 30 September 2026, Météo-France explains that intense Mediterranean rainfall episodes occur particularly in autumn. This seasonal context is a reason to schedule maintenance ahead of time, rather than wait for a weather event to reveal outstanding issues.

Ask the relevant professionals to examine rainwater drainage, previously identified water ingress and equipment needing periodic maintenance. Agree how outdoor furniture will be stored and how the garden and pool will be looked after. The checks should reflect the individual property and its condition.

Make remote oversight easy to follow

A useful report explains what was observed, what was done and what still needs a decision. Dated photographs, a short record of interventions and a named contact are often easier to work with than a succession of scattered messages.

Before leaving, establish who holds the keys, who can access technical areas, how to contact you and which expenses require approval. Scheduled visits need a defined scope. Property coordination and specialist equipment assessment call for different skills, with each professional acting within their role.

Prepare for your next stay now

Record your return date, the rooms to prepare and the equipment checks needed before arrival. Planning ahead helps group interventions and allows time to approve quotations. It also makes adjustments easier if your calendar changes.

During a weather warning, people’s safety takes priority. Météo-France advises avoiding travel and staying out of basements in heavy rain and flooding situations. Any inspection must wait for safe conditions and follow instructions from the authorities.
